What does this qualification cover?

This qualification’s aim is to provide an introduction to the early development of the brain in babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age. It looks at how the social brain develops, the limbic system and self-regulation.

Who is it suitable for?

This qualification is suitable for learners aged 16 or above who are interested in working in the early years sector. No previous experience of working in an early years setting is required.

What are the entry requirements?

Learners should be a minimum of 16 years of age.

How is this qualification structured?

There are 2 mandatory units.

How is it assessed?

Both units are internally assessed.

Do you need to be working to take this qualification?

Experience in the workplace is not essential as this is a knowledge-only qualification.

What related qualifications can you progress to?

Learners could progress to the following qualifications:

• Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner

• Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Early Years Education and Care.

This qualification doesn’t lead to a specific job role but it provides continued professional development of new knowledge and skills and supports the Practitioner role in the workplace.
